For the past three to four decades, local
production of goods in Nigeria has continued to dwindle due to the increase in
the importation of goods that could be produced in the country.
Many of the local producers in the country have
folded up due to their inability to favourably compete with imported goods in
the market. This has also led to the loss of jobs with thousands sent into the
unemployment market every year.
With Nigeria fast becoming a dumping ground for
all sorts of products from around the world, there is the need to ensure the
survival of local producers of goods in the country in order to protect the
nation’s economy.
Therefore, I prescribe
that there shall be a BAN on the importation of ANY good that is or can be
produced locally in Nigeria. This shall serve as incentive for local
production. This will also create employment opportunities and job security in
the production sector.
